Our Mission
We, the parish family St. Joseph’s, are all God’s children, brothers and sisters in the Lord, Jesus Christ, filled with the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Eucharist. We are a warm people of God responding to his call to know him better. As believers, we will try to follow in the footsteps of Christ on earth. By our own lifestyles, we will strive to serve and give witness to each other and the world around us. This is our vision and the mission of this church family!
Who We Are
In 1903, approval was given for a new parish in Uniontown, Pa., for Polish speaking people.
Officially, the first Mass celebrated within the limits of the parish was August 1903 at the old St. John Church of Uniontown. The first church, located on South Mount Vernon Avenue, was built with the hard work and prayer of Polish emigrants, many of whom were coal miners.
On October 1, 1905, a ceremony for the blessing of the cornerstone took place. Land for a parish cemetery was purchased in 1916 in Hopwood. Originally, the parish had a school, which opened in 1907 and educated many of the faithful, some of whom went on to become priests and nuns. The school was closed in 1970.
A new St. Joseph Church was completed on our present site of 19 acres here in South Union Township in 1974, which is located in Fayette County, in the Appalachian Basin.
Our parish continues to be a vibrant one today. Even though we are a national parish of Polish ethnicity, we serve the needs of 650 families from various ethnic backgrounds.
I hope that you find our website helpful and informative. If we can be of any further service or assistance, do not hesitate to contact us. Please know that you are most welcome to come and pray with us.
May St. Joseph, our patron, intercede for you.
